Tirana International Airport registered 1,394,688 passengers in 2009, up 10% from a year earlier.
The airport recorded 20,064 air traffic movements (ATMs) and handled 1,711 tons of cargo. ATMs increased by 4.5% while cargo decreased by 13%.
“Given Albania’s expanding business travel market, TIA foresees great opportunities for more growth, together with our partner airlines,” airport CEO Andrea Gebbeken said in a statement.
In 2009, the airlines carrying most passengers to Tirana were Belleair (42.8%), Alitalia (13.4%), Albanian Airlines (8.9%), Austrian Airlines (5.9%), and Turkish Airlines (5.6%).
Twelve airlines use the airport, offering direct connections to 33 destinations including Zurich, Liege and Stuttgart.
