Nov 28th - Albania's parliament has passed the country's 2009 budget to back 6 percent growth to cope with the impact of the global economic crisis.

Prime Minister Sali Berisha said the budget would help macroeconomic stability and the building of the biggest roads in the ex-communist Balkan nation's history.

Albania has cut its budget deficit from 5.2 percent to 4.2 percent instead of 3.5 percent"This budget is the result of Albania's economic boom," Berisha said.

"We have planned to cut the budget deficit with one percentage point to 4.2 percent of GDP compared to (5.2 percent in) 2008," spokeman Bode said. "This sum is easily manageable with funds from the internal financial network.""The level of revenue growth is moderate at 10 percent since 2009 is an election year and we do not want to cause shocks.

"Bode said the economy, on track for 6 percent growth in 2008, had been vital enough to avoid an increase in inflation and it was stable below three percent, unlike its Balkan neighbours that are battling with inflation twice as much as ours."
