Croatia continues to be the less corrupted country in Western Balkans region, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is the most corrupted one, with Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro making some progress and Serbia significant setbacks, according to the ‘Corruption Perceptions Index 2008’ report of Berlin based organization Transparency International (TI).

The report reveals that among all six countries from the region Albania has made the best efforts against the corruption while Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have gone backwards.

According to the report of 2008 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), among 180 worldwide nations surveyed, Croatia is 62th (last year was 64) while the highest level of corruption in the region is reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina which ranks 92th (last year was at 84th place).

Serbia is the 85th (last year 79th ); Albania 85th (last year 105 ); Macedonia 72th (last year 84); Montenegro 85th (last year 84).

Kosovo was not included in the survey but a study by the World Bank (WB) in June said that the new country is the most corrupted in the region.
